OpenStreetMap (ODbL 1.0)
The riverside path network, river bridges, starts in New Taipei and Taoyuan, sights, toilets, water fountains, stores, MRT and light rail stations, the mountain roads of the classic climbs and the trails of the Taipei Grand Hike come from OpenStreetMap, © OpenStreetMap contributors, under the Open Database License 1.0.
The data the app uses is derived from OpenStreetMap and offered for download under ODbL 1.0 too:
- taipei-routes.json: candidate routes, distances, amenities and sights along them
- riverside-starts.json: starts (floodgates, riverside parks, levee ramps)
- rail-stations.json: MRT and light rail stations, and how far each is from the nearest riverside path
- climbs.json: the classic climbs' routes, distances, climbing and height profiles
- trails.json: Taipei Grand Hike sections one to seven: routes, waypoints, distances, climbing and height profiles
- taipei.pmtiles: the basemap Android, iOS and the web share (vector tiles of greater Taipei, made by Protomaps from OpenStreetMap and Natural Earth, in PMTiles format)
- place-names-en.json, street-names-en.json, map-names-en.json: the English names of places, streets and the map's labels (partly OpenStreetMap's name:en, the rest by rules and Hanyu Pinyin)
Government open data (Open Government Data License, version 1.0)
- Taipei City open data: floodgates, riverside bike rental stations, YouBike 2.0 stations; YouBike 2.0 rentals (Taipei City Department of Transportation, 2025-08 to 2026-07, summarised as leisure rides, used to estimate the speed and popular places of riders without their own bike).
- New Taipei City open data: riverside park locations, YouBike 2.0 stations.
- Central Weather Administration: township forecasts (Taipei F-D0047-061, New Taipei F-D0047-069, Taoyuan F-D0047-005) for weather hints; hourly observations at the Taipei station (466920), 2025-08 to 2026-07, which with the YouBike rentals estimate how weather changes how many people ride, the basis of the hints' thresholds and of "nicer later".
- Directorate-General of Personnel Administration: government office calendars (2025, 2026), to tell holidays from working days.
- Ministry of the Interior, Department of Land Administration: the 2025 20 m digital terrain model of Taiwan, for the routes' climbing and the height profiles on share pictures.
Street lights shown for night rides come from OpenStreetMap's lit=yes tags (ODbL, above).

Taipei Grand Hike
Each section's ends, waypoints, distance, suggested time, difficulty and audience follow the route descriptions published on the Taipei Grand Hike website of the Geotechnical Engineering Office, Public Works Department, Taipei City Government (updated July 2026); the site's GPX files carry no licence, so they are not used: the routes are worked out from these waypoints on OpenStreetMap's trails (ODbL, above) and checked against the Grand Hike markers and maps tagged on OpenStreetMap. Follow the trail signs on site.
